I was born in Bangkok, and, as much as love my hometown, spending a few days among the crowds, traffic and trains always leaves me longing for some peace and quiet. At the same time, I’m not one to seek out a secluded beach, miles from anywhere – I need a serene base, but I also need a bustling scene close by to get my street food fix or get a foot massage, and of course somewhere to shop!
Chiang Mai is perfect for this, because it is mostly low-rise, there’s relatively little traffic and the beautiful old town is just 15 minutes from the airport – a perfect escape from the busy Thai capital. To see all my tips for where to stay, what to eat and of course, where to shop, check out my blog on Expedia.com.au.
