As you guys might have guessed, I am often away. I travel a lot for both work and pleasure and it’s no secret that my Aussie self loves the sunshine. Sometimes London and I fall out because of this.
I’m always jetting off somewhere for work or play so I need to be super organised with my swimwear collection. But to be honest, who doesn’t own multiple swimsuits? It’s almost more fun that picking out pretty lingerie. Especially now, when there are so many funky patterns and designs and cute bikinis and sexy one pieces.
Whether you’re heading off on a beach holiday or you just want one for lounging by the pool, I’m going to share some of my tips when choosing a new cozzie. What styles suit, when to buy etc. Just call me your swimsuit agony aunt, I’m here for you, guys.
Purchase Point
Okay, firstly, never wait until summer to buy your bikini. I know, it’s weird to shop for one at Christmas time in the snow or rain, it feels weird, I get it. But if you stock up throughout the year, you’ll build your collection more naturally. You don’t want to end up in need of one the day before holiday and choosing one because you have to, rather than because you love it. It’s essentially your underwear – you gotta be confident in it.

Bikinis
What do you normally go for when buying a swimsuit? If you’re a two-piece girl, then that’s great –work it. It’s nice to stretch outside the lines and try something new but it’s also super important to know what works for you. If you have abs of steel, get that midrift out. If you want to change things up a bit, opt for ruffled or peplum details on your bikini. Try a high-waisted design if you’re a little curvier. Or if you’ve had a big lunch LIKE I ALWAYS DO.

Swimsuits
Gone are the days where a swimming costume means a black all-in-one with a Speedo or Nike logo on the front. You can get some really cute one-pieces and sometimes I think they’re even sexier than bikinis. I would say that because it’s one lot of material; tread carefully around patterns if you’re more voluptuous. Find what works for you again – perhaps a tiny polka dot print flatters you more than a splattered leopard print. Or maybe you’ve fallen for a neutral-coloured crinkle fabric number?

Laser Cut
These look FIERCE. Like, totally epic. Perfect for getting that gram-worthy photo by the pool with your cocktail, sunglasses and book. Personally, I don’t like them for actual lounging though as I’m super fussy on tan lines and these just give you too many. The perfect outfit for a pool party though – pair with some wedges and a kimono and you’ll be a hit.

High Cut
Probably the most flattering of suits to hit the shops right now, the high cut has been around for a while but isn’t going anywhere. It is the dream for curvy girls who don’t have height on their side as who will say no to a bit of leg-lengthening magic? Not me. Tip: don’t try pulling your regular suit up above your hips, you need a specifically high-cut swimming costume of bikini for maximum flattering.
