Who doesn’t love a good jumpsuit? There’s nothing I love more than being in a bit of a wardrobe panic and then being able to grab an all-in-one that’s comfy, stylish and sorts me out in five seconds.
Whilst jumpsuits and playsuits can both be fitted – and that works for many occasions – all us girls honestly love a comfy outfit that is also on trend. So you’ll understand why I’m so glad this style is having a bit of a moment this season.
I like to think of overalls as a jumpsuit’s tomboy sister. We might have a tease at it’s less shapely fit and painter/decorator stereotype but, ultimately, it knows what’s what because we’re all dying to wear one this summer. It’s been Instagram-approved which means the style has truly reinvented
itself – kind of like if you moved to a new school or town, you could be whoever you wanted to be – and the overalls have chosen to be fashion’s most-loved piece right now.
Need a quick fix that’s professional for a meeting? Overalls. Want to look cute on your date but not like you tried too hard? Overalls. Desk to drinks with your girls? Overalls. I’m seriously an advocate for this style in all circumstances. It’s no longer known as a casual piece; instead, a sartorial staple.
So how to wear them?
Maybe you love overalls because they’re casual, rather than in spite of that fact. Team a slouchy pair with a cute crop tee and to nail that effortless look we’re all dying to work.
If you’re amp-ing up your look, team your overalls with a lace cami and some wedges or ankle boots – remember you want to be comfy. If your overalls have dungarees-style straps, undo one.
You know how your favourite pair of jeans is your go-to and work for any occasion? It’s exactly the same for denim overalls; it steers the look away from workwear and makes it fashion.
If you’re looking for more of a professional look, I’m a huge fan of donning a ruffled or pussy bow blouse with a scoop or low neck pair of overalls. The long sleeves and detail say you mean business.
