It’s slithered its way (sorry, couldn’t help myself) to first place out of all the prints and snakeskin doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon.
Whether you’re going hard and not home with a trench coat or just want some subtle details via your handbag or gloves, this pattern looks good no matter how you rock it.
I want it all; skirt, jacket, boots – the lot. But how do you wear it to a) stop it being too much (yes, even if you love it, you don’t want to do it to death) and b) make sure you select key pieces you can wear season after season.
A bold choice – you’re making a statement here. It’s also a risk because coats tend to be the pricier part of a wardrobe and there’s no shame in wanting to pick a more versatile piece of outerwear. But…if you choose to go fully iconic, here’s what to do. Lots of snakeskin coats have a sports luxe vibe about them, with a fluorescent or coloured piping detail – this helps break it up a bit. Keep the rest of your outfit dead simple – I say all black or white and slim-fit clothing so the coat does the talking.
I mean, where does it end with boots this season? White is in, furry is in, patent is in – so why not snakeskin too? Again, it’s a big step away from investing in a pair of trusty black boots that will last you through every outfit and look you could imagine. But they make a statement and print is about that head-turning style. That’s my two cents, anyways. Plus, you’ve got your whole life to buy black boots – and they’ll be lots to choose from whenever you decide to. Find the snakeskin boots of your choice and you need them, trust me.
For those of you who want to try the trend but aren’t 100% sure, accessories are wear you land. The easiest one to go for is the bag as you can get a completely snakeskin tote or clutch or you can go for something that has a subtle snakeskin detail. This also makes it easier to style the print as you can, of course, strip it all back and opt for a neutral and simple outfit. Or you can clash prints and colours however you like – it’s easier to do this with a smaller snakeskin focus to work with. Also, if you don’t want to go for a bag, why not expand to belts, cuffs and other cute accessories. Fashion is your oyster.
