I definitely wouldn’t be quite the fashion-lover if it weren’t for my favourite TV series, Sex and the City. It’s a bit cliche, but so what – watching Carrie Bradshaw unwrap gifts and purchases in her modest little NYC apartment and then step out onto the streets of the West Village ready to face the town was a serious inspiration for me. I think over the years my subconscious has been fixated on her character, and while I don’t quite live in The Big Apple just yet, there are so many aspects of what I’m doing right now that allow me to dream big, no matter how simple or extravagant the little gift-wrapped parcels that arrive at my doorstep may be.
As anyone who has followed my Snapchat for a long time will know, I pretty much lose it over two scenes from the first Sex and the City film. First, when Carrie plays dress-up in her apartment in front of her girl squad, and then when Big builds her the master closet in their new penthouse. (AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!)
Back to reality!!! Ok, I don’t own a New York City penthouse, and I don’t have an unlimited interior decorating budget. However, I do have a genuine lust for fashion and it would be sad to build a collection of outfits and accessories and then just stuff them in an old wardrobe! So this year I gave my husband the good news that I was taking over our guest bedroom (sorry guests!!!), and–with some elbow grease and a couple of thousand dollars–I built my dream walk-in wardrobe.
The guest room before photo. It had an old built in that Scott had to pull down. (Thank god for a handyman hubs!)
Above: We also painted the walls and ceiling base white
Here is the finished product! Grizzly is happily chilling out on the floor in his new room. Lantern from Ikea for $69.
Finally we put in four dimmable 16w bright white LED down lights, to give it that real showroom feel
Thank you all so much for reading! I hope it gives you some tips for a little project!
