I love cities that manage to make you feel cosy when it’s cold. People joke about Australians not knowing what a real winter is, but we don’t prepare for it well – so when I come to a city that has open fires, blankets and fake fur chair warmers, I get pretty excited.
As well as helping warm me up, Copenhagen manages the darkness pretty well. It’s getting dark at about 4pm at the moment there, but the old town lights up and Tivoli Gardens was full of Christmas lights. Tivoli even keeps the resident families of peacocks warm underneath the coal burners and you can’t walk 10 paces without passing a hot chocolate vendor. I loved it.
