There’s all this talk about wanting to be a princess or a mermaid but now it’s time for cowgirls to shine as fashion is steering us slightly to the wild west. Who knew the likes of Butch Cassidy and John Wayne could provide sartorial choices in 2019 but here we are. I’m going to say let’s ditch the spurs and hat but the boots? The boots are trending and you should definitely consider adding them to your shoe collection.
Unsure how to wear them? Yeah, I wasn’t convinced at first either but – as you guys know – I’m a sucker for a pair of boots and a pair of cowboys were going to be no exception! There’s a variety of styles – short, long; you can get polished or patent styles to make it slightly more feminine or even
invest in a preloved pair for the ultimate vintage look. Still struggling? Check out my tips
Tucked into/over denim
If you’re a jeans girl, you should go for a pair of ankle Western style boots so you can either tuck your jeans into your cowboys or have them sitting just over the top. If you’re braving the ankle – swinging look, I’d advise having a slight heel on your booties. I think either pair these with a simple
tee or a lace cami top.
Toughen up a girly dress
You could go long or short with this one. Heeled or flat. The world (of cowboy boots) is your oyster. It’s a great way to contrast with silk slip dresses or white crochet or broderie styles and they’re even more perfect for the British weather if you’re opting for a tall pair! The more feminine the dress the better, I think. Into the night, ordinarily I’d say stick to the daytime with these beauties but fashion is fashion and there are definitely some killer styles on both the high street and designer that are great for dressing up. I’m thinking pearls or studs or any cute, embellished detail to vamp up the Western look. This is a great shout if you’re in the classic day to drinks situation.
Printed
Who says you have to stick with black, brown or white? Merge what’s in fashion and try and source a pair of snakeskin or mock-croc and you’ll never have to worry about Western boots being paused in style – you’ll be rocking multiple trends. Sustainable, versatile, stylish; the list goes on… Keep the rest of your look minimalist if you’re trying this one.
Midi or Maxi Dresses
I’m a sucker for a long dress with long boots. “Frumpy”, says you? “Layered brilliance”, says I. There’s something sexy and sophisticated about this style stacking that makes me instantly think of high fashion. Don’t knock it ‘till you’ve tried it although I must admit, it’s a little harder to master if
you’re on the shorter side. But just make sure both the dress and boots are fitted or brave a heel.
