On a recent trip to Amsterdam, my focus was on applying my ‘travel wardrobe’ to the many beautiful backdrops of this stunning city. Travelling is always a challenge – you end up encountering so many great moments in which to shoot clothes, but then you’ve got to rely upon what you’ve got in your luggage or what little helpers can kindly deliver during a shot city stop!

Amsterdam centre is small, which is great – it’s easy to cover much of it and find the best spots during a quick scouting walk. I stayed at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, which has huge and beautiful grounds – really unusual for Amsterdam. This was great, because if I was feeling a little shy and wanted to capture some of the beautiful old stone local buildings and do wardrobe changes without having to trek too far, I was able to shoot in the grounds of the hotel, which is based on an original 15th century structure. As well as this, there are rooms in the hotel that they have preserved from when it was the Amsterdam city hall, which I found–quite literally–haunting! A few shots are included below – let me know if you spot any paranormal activity!
I was lucky with the weather and got to cover large parts of the city in some of my favourite outfits, so here are the photos! Thank you Amsterdam and thank you so much Nynke from Sofitel for accommodating all of my requests to shoot around the hotel! It was an amazing stay!
